Since this blog is directly affiliated to KkapLineSubs (blog owner = co-ordinator of the team), I thought I should write a note explaining how we came about, the members, and the process. Part of the reason why I’m writing this is to let the people who wait every week for the subtitles know why it takes so long.

The Birth of KkapLineSubs

KkapLineSubs was actually formed rather unintentionally. After the Special episode was broadcasted on 1 May 2010, we were all patiently waiting for the English subs to come out as usual. We knew that the wait was going to be longer because it’s 1 hour instead of the usual 30-40 minutes. BUT the Chinese subs was released probably one or two days later. So while waiting, I thought “why not translate the Chinese subs to English so that I could share it with others?”

And that’s what I did. From there, I released the text translation in parts. Before I know it, I have people from the Soompi forum asking me if they could use my translation to sub the video. I agreed since it means that we would get the subbed video out faster.

After that first project, we realised that there are people within the forum who has the skills to do subbing and that’s when we decided to come together and form this team.

The Members

The team came together and formed itself simply because we love the Adam couple very much. We are doing what we do because we want to spread the joy we get from watching them.

To date, I have about 15 members on the team. This might seem like a big team but because we have other commitments (like a job, etc), we can’t be as fast as we want to. We do try our best to release the episodes before the next one is broadcasted but sometimes, there’s a limit to how much we can do in a day. And believe me, we are more excited to release the video than to keep it for ourselves.

The Process

The process of translating starts when the Chinese sub teams release their videos. The translators would translate as accurately as possible. Because the translators in the team are mostly Chinese-to-English translators with minimum knowledge of the Korean language, a lot of time is being put into making sure that we do not distort the meaning. After that, the translations are sent to be edited and checked for accuracy.

Because we try to sub every caption and bubble you see on the video, the editing and checking process can take a rather long time because not everything is translated in the Chinese subbed videos.

After the whole translation-editing process is done, the translations are then passed on to the timers/subbers. The timers’ job basically entails timing the beginning and the end of when a subtitle appear and disappear. It might sound easy to you but trust me, it’s a very time-consuming process, especially with the desire to be as accurate as possible.

Once the soft subs are done, the files are then sent to the typesetter. The typesetter is responsible for the fonts and various kind of effects you see on the fonts. The typesetter also does the editing to make sure that there’s no mistake in the timing process.

After that’s done, the final soft sub file is sent for encoding with the raw video and the finished product is then uploaded onto YouTube and the downloading portals.

I have to commend some of the members who joined the team. Some of them went to pick up skills that’s required to be part of the team in order to share the videos with more people. So, we have a lot of newbies who might not be as experienced but they make up for it by having a real passion for what they do. So for that, I really have to salute them.

Final Note

We can understand the anxiety everyone who’s watching this couple has in wanting the English subtitles to be out as soon as possible. Some might even argue if the Chinese sub team can get it out within a day, why not the English subs do the same?

I could give you many reasons why we can’t release the episodes faster but I think none would be entirely satisfactory. But what you need to know is this: We (the team) know what it is like to wait for the subtitles to come out. We have all been there. So the moment we can share our work, we would. It’s not like we would hoard the videos and release it only when the screams of agony get loud enough to please our egos. We have our limitations and flaws but we really want to do the best job possible.

So, please be patient.

And we will sub every single episode of the Adam couple in WGM. There’s NO NEED to ask us to do it because we are on it after each episode is aired.

As for other programs that they go on, we will really see if subbing them is feasible.

Collaboration Partners

We depend a lot on the Chinese subbed video. While it’s not an official arrangement, we would like to thank JYPCN and BEGASIA thus far for subbing and uploading the videos really fast. JYPCN is now subbing the Royal Couple (Nic-Vic) from 100626 onwards and BEGASIA is responsible for Adam Couple Chinese subs.

For us, we work with the Thai Adam Couple sub team (IAMEverlasting) by providing them with the English translations each week. This has helped them get out the Thai subs faster. We also help each other out wherever possible.

We will like to thank everyone for your support thus far. Your encouragement and thank you messages really give us the motivation to continue doing what we are doing. It’s tiring and can be frustrating at times, but each week when we finally release the videos, the sense of achievement we get is tremendous! Words can’t really express how good it feels.

Last but not least, we all have the Adam Couple to thank! A lot of us in the team took steps forward into doing what we are doing because of the couple.
